Although this film is from 2003 it remains relevant to this day, as it traces what has become a nefarious organisation that – in the US, at least – has all the powers and protections of an individual, but without any of the moral responsibilities, their only aim being to maximize profit at any cost, something which is legally embedded in their constitutions.
The film is based on the book, The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power by Joel Bakan and explains in various chapters the rise of the corporation, what they were originally meant to do, and how they were limited in their operations; how they gained special rights, and rose to new importance, and how today they threaten every area of our culture and environment.
Some of the most important voices of our time speak in the film, including Howard Zinn, Michael Moore, Naomi Klein, Jeremy Rifkin and Noam Chomsky; and we also hear from activists and scientists on the effects corporate control is having on societies worldwide. As corporations control most of the media and have effectively bought politicians, their ill effects are even greater today than they were when this film was made.
